Healthy On the Go Snacks

Every month at the Martin Resorts home office, we present a new challenge to our team. This May, we’re encouraging the Martin Resorts family to make more health-conscious decisions when it comes to snacking by asking them to share their favorite healthy snack. Now we’re bringing their ideas to you, in the hopes that on your next #CentralCoasting adventure you’ll be inspired to make smart snacking choices, too! Whether you’re packing up for a road trip, refueling on the trail, or planning a picnic, these foods will do you some good and taste even better!

1. Apples & Peanut Butter

The perfect blend of sweet and salty, apples and peanut better is a go-to choice around the Martin Resorts office, but as a good source of protein and good fats, this snack is even better when you’re getting active. It’s important, however, that you choose a natural peanut butter over regular brands that are high in sugar and hydrogenated oils. The peanut butter helps your body burn fat and build muscle because it’s high in monounsaturated fat, which can also lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease. Your body can use the apple as quick-burning fuel and since 2 tablespoons of peanut butter contain about 7-9 grams of protein, this tasty combo is the perfect snack to eat before or after your workout. Next time you hit the trails, whether you’re hiking or biking, give yourself a boost with this beneficial blend.

2. Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is a great healthy snack for the simple reason that it doesn’t feel like one! Next time you’re craving something rich, creamy, and sweet, skip the ice cream and reach for Greek yogurt instead. High in calcium, protein, and containing 0 grams of saturated fat or cholesterol, Greek yogurt has many benefits for your heart, bones, and muscles. Composed of 20% calcium, you get more calcium per spoonful of Greek yogurt than you do by drinking a glass of milk, strengthening your bones. With every bite, you can also build more muscle since Greek yogurt is 30% protein. But our favorite part of Greek yogurt? It’s variety of delicious flavors! You’ll never get tired of it because it comes in so many different fruity flavors that you can top with a variety of healthy bits like berries, granola, or honey.

3. Superfood Smoothie

Even though they don’t have a red and blue cape, there are certain foods that are indeed super. Superfoods are all natural, nutrient-rich food that are especially beneficial for your overall health and well-being. When you throw a few of them together into a green smoothie, you’re literally drinking in the best the Earth has to offer your body, making it the perfect pick-me-up as you go through your day. Some of the most beneficial superfood smoothie boosters include chia seeds, coconut oil, avocado, hemp seeds, cacao powder, goji berries, flaxseed, acai powder, camu camu powder, and spirulina. Hemp is perfect for active individuals, as it’s made up of 50% protein, and goji berries will boost any immune system since they contain over 20 vitamins and minerals!

Next time you find yourself in Avila Beach, visit Kravabowl for a cold press juice, smoothie, or Acai Bowl, each of which are jam-packed with superfoods! What’s even better, is each bowl is too pretty not to snap an Instagram! Show us yours by using #CentralCoasting on Instagram, and you’ll be entered to win a one-night stay at a Martin Resorts property!
