Why Employees Believe Martin Resorts is one of the “Best Places to Work”

In May, Martin Resorts Inc. was honored to be voted one of the 2017 “Best Places to Work” on the Central Coast by the Pacific Coast Business Times, the weekly business journal for Ventura, Santa Barabara, and San Luis Obispo counties. The journal surveyed hundreds of professionals from SLO to Ventura in an effort to identify businesses that have great morale, safe working environments, and the best teams—and Martin Resorts is one of them! We’d like to say thank you to all of the Martin Resorts employees who submitted a nomination for our company, giving us this amazing recognition. But we also wanted to know what our team members love most about working for Martin Resorts, so we conducted a survey of our own. Below, read a few employee’s testimonials of why they believe Martin Resorts truly is one of the “Best Places to Work.”

“We are all a family…”

When asked why she thinks Martin Resorts deserves to be recognized as one of the 2017 “Best Places to Work” on the Central Coast, Shore Cliff Hotel‘s Guest Services Manager, Lulu Lawag said, “Martin Resorts is a wonderful place to work. All the staff are welcoming and have a great attitude. It is as if we are all a family with the same goal to make our guests have a great experience during their stay with us. My favorite part about working in this company is that I’m able to grow my interest in hospitality [and] Martin Resorts has more opportunities to work with other properties to get insight on how to better each property.”

The Martin Resorts company holds it’s mission and values close to its heart every day, serving as the centerpiece for driving our team members and providing the best guest experiences possible. Lulu’s favorite memory while working at Shore Cliff happened when she embodied our core value of Distinction.

“I had a guest make multiple reservations for a 2 month period. I was able to modify his reservations after getting some cancellations,  combining his reservation into one. The guest was so happy and relieved. A couple days later he came with a large box of See’s chocolate candy. He said that this was for me and it was because I was a super sweet person. That really made me feel like I went above & beyond for this guest,” said Lulu. Thank you, Lulu, for promoting a contagious spirit of hospitality, and enriching the lives of our guests one experience at a time!

“This company genuinely cares for their employees…”

Nicole Turner has been working the Front Desk at the Inn at the Cove for two years, so we asked Nicole how Martin Resorts compares to other businesses that she’s worked for in the past. “It doesn’t,” she said. “Working in fast food and then switching to Martin Resorts, there isn’t even a comparison. The way each and everyone respects each other and their opinions and actually listens to understand instead of listening to respond makes a huge difference. This company genuinely cares for their employees, how we feel, and our opinions! For example, Home Office remembers everyone’s name and I only know a few of the Home Office employees’ names,” said Nicole.

This kind of teamwork inspired what is now one of Nicole’s favorite memories. “One time a repeat guest came and they had requested a certain room and the past few times we weren’t able to get their request due to construction. However, I spoke to my co-workers Sophia and April, Housekeeping Manager Cherie, and Breakfast team Darius and Yohana. We all huddled up to make sure this guest had the best experience…and they did! They weren’t going to come back due to the room request not being made, however, we made their stay so comfortable and amazing they will be returning in a few weeks!”

“I look forward to coming in…”

Employees, whether they’re seasoned or brand new, full-time or part-time, Home Office or hotel staff, are all an important part of the Martin Resorts family. Davinia, our new Guest Services Agent at Pismo Lighthouse Suites just finished her first week and already feels at home. She says, “I feel very privileged to be a new member of the team here. I feel like I am a member of a family and that is very unusual for a workplace. [My favorite part about working for Martin Resorts] is the really positive attitude from co-workers and the management team.”

When asked how Martin Resorts compares to her previous work experiences, Davinia said “I can only judge it so far by how working here makes me feel. I look forward to coming in, and that is a good sign.”
