5 Sweet Spots to Celebrate National Donut Day on the Central Coast

Donuts are loved by both kids and adults alike. Endless flavor combinations, toppings, and baking methods help make donuts unique. No shop makes them the same as the next, and SLO County has its fair share of unique donut destinations too. With National Donut Day quickly approaching on Friday, we wanted to share our favorite local spots to enjoy these tasty treats!

Twisted & Glazed (Paso Robles)

Opened back in 2017 and open every hour since, Twisted & Glazed has quickly become a Paso Robles mainstay for donut lovers in the area. Right down the street from our very own Paso Robles Inn, the shop has traditional doughnut classics on its menu such as bars and twists, but with flavors ranging from Oreo cream to apple pie and chocolate salted pretzel. The menu also offers the untraditional, it focuses on flavored doughs such as banana, blueberry, and strawberry, with specialty icings and toppings such as cereal or cookies. Stay tuned to @twistedandglazed on Instagram for their National Donut Day deals!

Sunshine Donuts (San Luis Obispo)

Open when the sun is shining, as well as when the moon lights the night sky, Sunshine Donuts is a no-frills bakery but their donuts rank up there with the best in the county. With a classic donut shop interior, Sunshine serves up quality donuts ranging in flavor from the classic old fashioned glazed to their more exotic apple sauce flavored options. Sunshine is definitely a worthy late night snack option, as well as an early morning stop on your way to the office. Celebrate National Donut Day with them this Friday!

SloDoCo (San Luis Obispo and Atascadero)

Arguably the most popular donut destination in the county, SloDoCo is another 24-hour pastry paradise with locations in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero. What makes SloDoCo unique is their range of options. From old fashioned plain to circus animal (yes, that’s a thing) they’ve got it all! And those with food allergies aren’t alone either. Vegan? No problem. Gluten-free? They’ve got you covered! With over 100 donut options available every day, the only bad part about a visit to SloDoCo is having to choose just one. Luckily, they sell dozens too 😉 Keep an eye on @SloDoCo on Instagram, they’ll be posting their National Donut Day deals soon!

Surfside Donuts (Pismo Beach)

Another county favorite, Surfside Donuts has been killing the donut game in Pismo Beach for years. Open from 6am-1pm (or until they sell out), this beach town bakery makes some pretty impressive donuts—like their matcha flavored custard filled long johns or shaka shaped bear claws. On top of donuts, Surfside also serves the sought after Stumptown Coffee (roasted in Portland). Nothing pairs better with a donut than a solid cup of joe! They’ve been teasing a pretty big giveaway on their Instagram for National Donut Day, don’t miss it! Follow @SurfsideDonuts to stay updated. If you’re staying at one of our Pismo Beach resorts this week/weekend, Surfside is right up the road in downtown Pismo.
