One of the best things about shopping on the Central Coast is that you don’t always know what you’re going to get. Our smaller community means that there are less big-name department stores, and plenty of unique, carefully crafted shops that mean a lot – stores where you can find unique clothes and gifts that would be impossible to discover in your run-of-the-mill department store. For those willing to browse and explore, the Central Coast offers many options for boutique shopping. Here are some of our favorites across the county:
A traveller’s heaven and a great place for gifts, Ruby Rose reflects its quirky atmosphere with the wide-ranging variety of products available. From trendy clothes, to first-rate art and photographic prints, and comfortable blankets and home decor, there is something unique to find at Ruby Rose, regardless of what you were looking for. Flip through the postcards from all corners of the world at the front desk to escape into the many destinations and amazing places the world has to offer us.
Harper Jo & Company
We love the Pismo Outlets, with amazing high-quality stores like Nike, Coach, and Gap. But sometimes it’s nice to experience a store with local owners selling clothes tailored for the Central Coast clientele. That’s where a store like Harper Jo & Company comes in, which is located conveniently a couple minutes away from the Pismo Beach Outlets. This cute store sells carefully selected and high-quality women’s clothes that will give your wardrobe a unique flair.
Jules D stands out against the sea of women-focused boutiques that are common in downtown San Luis Obispo. This is a modern store with an old fashioned sensibility, selling high-quality razors and shaving products. They also offer beautiful leather shoes, classic belts, and more fashionable products for men. All men who care about their appearance, or who have a woman in their life who cares about their appearance, should definitely check out this specialized shop.
This eclectic boutique is located near the embarcadero in Morro Bay. Step into their doors and you’ll enter a more natural world, filled with beautiful, quirky succulents, plants, and seasonal displays. Right now, for instance, Garden Gallery is decorated with excitement for the coming fall season, with pumpkins, harvest decorations and orange and red leaves. Get excited for autumn with decorations you’ll love for the season, and maybe pick up some beautiful plants to keep for years.
Residents and visitors rave about the vibe of this creatively designed store, a mix of “Anthropologie meets Etsy.” You’ll want to take the whole store back home with you! The selection of products ranges from professional goods imported from LA or Europe, to one-of-a-kind creations from local artisans. Check out the contemporary art gallery upstairs, or find your next amazing gift downstairs. You’ll definitely find something you love!
Another art gallery in Paso Robles, Viva Paso is a little younger than Firefly Gallery but has definitely made an impact. Their Instagram account showcases their unique vibe – artsy, bohemian products with cute knick-knacks thrown in for good measure. The owner, a self professed “history nerd,” loves travel, so a variety of products from all over the world are available, in addition to beautiful and unique art. Geometric shapes, succulents, and unique products litter the store, and its free-spirited vibe makes it a place you’ll want to stay for a while.
