How to Spend Black Friday #CentralCoasting Style

The holiday season is the perfect excuse to get together with family, indulge in delicious food, and acknowledge all that we are grateful for. However, these meaningful holiday traditions are often sacrificed as holidays become more about stores and less about appreciating the outdoors. This year, we encourage you to take a break from the lines and instead spend this Black Friday enjoying these free activities with your loved ones. You’ll be grateful you did.

1. Turkey-Day Leftovers Picnic

There are tons of special spots all along the Central Coast that are perfect for an autumnal picnic. This Black Friday, do more than just heat-up leftovers from the big meal in between shopping trips. Instead, use your delicious hand-carved turkey to make tasty sandwiches that can be easily taken on a picnic! Bring along a bottle of sparkling apple cider, and of course a couple slices of pumpkin pie for round two of the feast. If you’re looking for the perfect spot to place your picnic blanket, check out Dinosaur Caves Park, Montana de Oro, Pirate’s Cove, or the Downtown City Park in Paso Robles. Use our guide to plan the perfect picnic.

2. Oceanfront Yoga at the Inn at the Cove

Carry the spirit of Thanksgiving through Black Friday and begin your day with a grateful intention—choose presence over presents this Black Friday by attending Yoga with Lindsay‘s special class on Friday, November 23rd from 10-11 AM on the oceanfront lawn at the Inn at the Cove. For just $5, you’ll enjoy an hour of breathing and stretching to the rhythm of the ocean, allowing you to achieve new levels of relaxation and flexibility that will leave you feeling centered and strong all day long.

3. Sunrise Hike

Skip the door-buster sales, and enjoy the greatest early-bird special of them all: the sunrise! All that turkey on Thursday is sure to make you pretty sleepy, so get to bed early and rest up for your 5am wake up call! Work your way up to Bishop Peak, Cerro San Luis, Reservoir Canyon, or Ontario Ridge Trail for a view that’s totally worth the sweat. Seeing the sunrise over San Luis Obispo with some of your favorite people will make you thankful to be in such a breathtaking area. Afterward, spend the day indulging in delicious leftovers without the guilt!

4. Beach Football

There’s sure to be plenty of football games on TV this holiday weekend, but that’s no excuse to turn into a couch potato. Instead, gather the family for a game of your own at Avila Beach or Pismo Beach. Appreciate the beauty of the Central Coast while chasing, tackling, and victory-dancing in the end zone. The best part? You can’t beat this deal because it’s completely free! If football isn’t your forte, play a game of tennis at Shore Cliff Hotel‘s private tennis court overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
