Fall into Festivals

While it might not quite feel like fall yet on the Central Coast thanks to our long Indian summers, all the fun that comes along with autumn is fast approaching! We’re looking forward to sweater weather, the return of Cal Poly students, pumpkin picking at Avila Valley Barn, wine harvest, and of course—all of our favorite fall festivals! Read on below about some of Autumn’s biggest events on the Central Coast and mark your calendars for the ones that interest you most.

Pismo Beach Clam Festival

Did you know that Pismo Beach was once called the “Clam Capital of the World”? To celebrate the abundance of clams found in Pismo Beach, locals started the Pismo Beach Clam Festival back in 1946. Although many of the clams are gone now due to hungry sea otters and overzealous hunters, the Pismo Beach Clam Festival is still one of the most anticipated events of the year for this beach community! This year marks the 71st anniversary of this special event, and attendance is expected to reach 15,000 people or more! Visit Pismo Beach October 20th-October 22nd for activities such as the Best Local Clam Chowder Contest, Clam Bake, Clam Dig, a Beer Garden, and live music! The Pismo Beach Clam Festival is a free event unless you’re participating in a premium scheduled activity like the Clam Festival Wine Walk on Friday night, so check out their schedule of events here. Stay close to the fun all weekend long by booking a room at Pismo Lighthouse Suites, Shore Cliff Hotel, or Inn at the Cove! When you book 3 nights directly on their websites, you’ll save $100!

Harvest on the Coast

While Paso Robles’ Harvest Wine Weekend celebrates the beginning of harvest season, Harvest on the Coast in Avila Beach serves as the grand finale to this wonderful time of year in wine country from November 3rd through November 5th. Kick off the weekend on Friday night at the “Crafted on the Coast” collaborative winemaker dinner, then join us for the Grand Tasting and Wine Auction on Saturday at Avila Beach Golf Resort. There, you’ll enjoy wine tasting, artisan food, live music, a silent auction, and more! Avila Lighthouse Suites is the perfect place to stay during this wine-filled weekend, as it’s located just down the street from the main event! Book 3-nights on the website now, and you’ll save $100 on your Harvest on the Coast weekend! We’ll drink to that!

Central Coast Sour Fest

This Sour Festival is doing something sweet! Created by BarrelHouse Brewing Co. of Paso Robles, the Central Coast Sour Fest will raise money and awareness for Lifewater charity of San Luis Obispo while celebrating craft beer, especially sour and wild ales! Lifewater is a clean water organization working to end the global water and sanitation crisis, so get your tickets now to support a wonderful cause and fun event! The weekend kicks off with a bonfire, local food and camping, live bluegrass music, and a bottle share. At the main event on Saturday, sample over 50 limited sour and wild beers from breweries from across the nation. There are only 800 tickets available with the goal of shorter lines and more beer available for everyone! Don’t miss the chance to “get wild in the country!”
