The Night Before Christmas: Paso Robles Inn Edition

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the hotel,
Not a creature was stirring, not even Clarabelle.
The wine glasses were lined up by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Zinfandel would soon be there.

The guests were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Creme Brulee Cheesecake danced in their heads.
And Hallie in her ‘kerchief, and Erica in her cap,
Had just dimmed the lobby for a long winter’s nap.

When down in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
Erica sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to The Steakhouse, she flew like a flash,
Tore open the door and double-checked the register of cash.

The fireplace warming the chairs all aligned in a row
Illuminated the restaurant to objects below.
When, what to her wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
She knew in a moment it wasn’t Chef Kyle, but must be St. Nick.
More rapid than Steakhouse service his coursers came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now, Moscato! Now, Bordeaux ! Now, Syrah and Merlot!
On, Cabernet! On Chardonnay! On, Riesling and Pinot!
To the top of the glass! To the top of the bottle!
Now drink away! Drink away! Drink away all!”

And then, in a twinkling, she heard in the ballroom
The clinking and clashing of wine glasses being consumed.
As she walked towards the lobby, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed in all fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of goodies he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a chef, food brimming his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like rosé, his nose like a holiday cranberry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as Steakhouse mashed potato.

He moved around the restaurant as nimble as a thief,
Pulling food from his pack and preparing a Christmas feast.
He had a familiar face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly.

The turkey was juicy and plump, like the jolly old elf,
Her mouth watered when she saw it, trying to contain herself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave her to know that today, all would be fed.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the glasses and platters, then turned with a jerk
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a holler,
And away they all went, like a holiday #CentralCoaster.
But Erica heard him exclaim, as he drove out of the Inn’s sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
